SAIGUPRINTIDENTITY
AboutSAIGU is the Korean word for the date the LA Riots broke out. When most people are asked to recall an image during this time, they would bring up the endless loop of LAPD officers beating Rodney King or the smoke that lingered above the city for days. They will also bring up the sound and images of gunfire from Korean shop owners as they defended their Korea-town stores from looters. To many in the Korean community, seeing that footage on TV over and over again was a terrifying experience.GoalA collaborative project with three other Korean-American women who came together and created a newspaper that would highlight stories and events for those in the Korean community affected from the lootings. Separated into five sections: The overview, political corruption, skewed media, troubled economy, and interviews.
